[00:00:00] Danielle Wiebe: Welcome to another episode of the Business Babes Collective Podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Wiebe, and I am really excited to be here with you today. We are going to have a short and sweet episode, and it is going to be more like a pep talk. So we are talking all about the fear of rejection and how that might be keeping you stuck from growing your business to the next level.

[00:00:23] Danielle Wiebe: So this is going to be a little boost of encouragement, um, maybe a little tough love, kind of like the elap last episode was as well. And so instead of doing a long drawn out intro, I'm just going to say, let's go right ahead and jump in.

[00:00:40] Danielle Wiebe: I wanted to do an episode on this because I was starting to see the same themes showing up in our community. So some of my clients and mastermind members, people within our action takers club, seeing kind of a common thread that there was some resistance and some fear when it came to actually taking the action.

[00:00:59] Danielle Wiebe: The [00:01:00] action steps that they knew they needed to do in order to grow their businesses to the next level. So in all of my coaching, we talk a lot of strategy, but also, you know, you can't separate strategy from mindset. You can't separate it from the feelings we have as humans. You know, we feel, uh, fear, we feel, um, anxiety, regret, we feel.

[00:01:23] Danielle Wiebe: Tired. We feel overwhelmed. There's all these feelings that come up when it comes to running our businesses. Right. And so one of the things that I was seeing. Was that there was this common thread around fear of rejection. And so I did an episode last week about the five reasons your pitches are getting rejected and what to do about it.

[00:01:44] Danielle Wiebe: And so the purpose of that episode was really to give you kind of the Best chance at getting a yes from an opportunity if you're pitching something, um, like pitching a collaboration or anything like that. But the thing is, [00:02:00] is that I said in that episode, and I want to share it again here. And I want to make a point of doing an entire episode about it because it's so important is that it's okay to get rejected.

[00:02:09] Danielle Wiebe: In fact, Getting rejected is actually a good thing. It means that you're going for big things. It means that you are getting outside of your comfort zone. It means that you're stretching yourself. So definitely listen to the episode last week to hear the concept around why pitches are getting rejected.

[00:02:29] Danielle Wiebe: But. In saying that, I also want you to go for that rejection. I want you to think so big. I want you to dream so big for your business that you are not afraid to go for big opportunities, that you're not afraid to pitch that dream client, right? So whether that looks like. You know, following up with someone that you would absolutely love to work with as a client, maybe applying for a speaking opportunity or asking a dream brand [00:03:00] for a collaboration on a project.

[00:03:02] Danielle Wiebe: Maybe it looks like asking for a testimonial from a past client so that you can showcase that on your website. Maybe it looks like pitching to be on a top podcast. I don't know what that looks like for you, but I think it's important that we recognize that We can't get these big opportunities for our business if we don't put ourselves out there.

[00:03:24] Danielle Wiebe: And I totally get it, I remember being so afraid of hearing the word no when I first started in entrepreneurship. For those of you who don't know, I've been in entrepreneurship for over 12 years in different industries and this specific business we've run for 9 years. And I remember when I was first starting, the idea of getting rejected, the idea of hearing no, was so overwhelming.

[00:03:45] Danielle Wiebe: Was so scary for me. And so I would really hold myself back from the opportunities that I would pitch myself for the opportunities that I went for. And then I really had this mindset shift and it really had to do with the mentors that I had, the [00:04:00] coaches that I had around me at the time that were saying like, you know, Danielle, what.

[00:04:05] Danielle Wiebe: What is the worst thing that could happen? Like, what is the absolute worst thing that could happen if you go for some of these big opportunities, or if you pitch, you know, that new client, or if you, um, you know, pitch a speaker to be a part of event, whatever that, that looked like, and I was like, well, I guess the worst that could happen is that they say no, no, like they reject me.

[00:04:26] Danielle Wiebe: Right. Like that is the worst thing that could happen. And so they were like, well, Danielle, you know, can you handle that? Like, would you be able to move on even if it stung a little bit, even if it was like a, you know, disappointment, would you be able to move on from that? I'm like, yeah, absolutely. Of course I would be sad, but I would move on.

[00:04:47] Danielle Wiebe: And you know, something that they said, which I really has really stuck with me is that I said, you know, The more that you go for opportunities, the more that you pitch, the more that you put [00:05:00] yourself out there, the easier it gets and the easier the rejection gets as well. And I have found that to be so true.

[00:05:09] Danielle Wiebe: And something that I know I shared in the last episode, which I'm going to share again, is that we get rejected all the time. All the time as a business. Um, for those of you who don't know, like we do a lot of pitching because we are hosting a lot of events. We're doing a lot of virtual events. We're doing in person events.

[00:05:28] Danielle Wiebe: We're doing a lot of, um, you know, podcast collaborations. And so we do a lot of pitching. And so with that, whether it be myself or, um, you know, Hannah on our team does a lot of the pitching for us as well. We do get a lot of no's. And I talked about in the, in the last podcast that, you know, a rejection can happen for a lot of different reasons.

[00:05:49] Danielle Wiebe: And it could be that it's just like not a good fit for the brand. It could be because you haven't done, you know, the, the prep work of building that relationship. Um, and then it also could be the fact that it's just not good [00:06:00] timing. And so. You know, we at this point have really good pitches. We have really good, uh, a really good strategy around how we go about building relationships with people, how we go about pitching, however, we still get a lot of no's.

[00:06:13] Danielle Wiebe: And so I want to share that transparently so that you understand, like when you see, All the things that we have going on. When you see the fact that we've hit a top 1 percent podcast, when you see the fact that we have, you know, top speakers at some of our, uh, virtual events or in our in person events, and we're hosting these big events with all of these sponsors and vendors and, you know, it looks all flashy.

[00:06:37] Danielle Wiebe: Just know that there has been a lot that has gone into the planning and the execution of that. And there's been a lot of rejection along the way. And so, I guess what I'm trying to say and what I'm trying to encourage you to do is to embrace rejection, to embrace the fact that you are going to be told no.

[00:06:59] Danielle Wiebe: And the faster [00:07:00] you can get over that, the faster you can embrace it, the quicker your business is going to move. I know that when I was able to really lean into that and be like, I actually, Don't care about rejection anymore. I'm sure sometimes I'm like, Oh, too bad because I would love to have, you know, that person, a part of our event, or I would love to have that speaker or sponsor, whatever it is.

[00:07:24] Danielle Wiebe: It's like, okay, that is a no that's okay. Onto the next and also building that relationship over time. So we are planting seeds. We're always planting seeds in our business. And. In order for your business to grow sustainably, you need to be planting seeds always, right? So you think about a garden and the fact that you need to plant seeds in order to actually see things grow.

[00:07:49] Danielle Wiebe: And sometimes you see those things grow a season later. Sometimes you see those things grow a year later, sometimes it's several years. And so. Some of the things that we're doing right now in our [00:08:00] business is not going to show up right away. It's not going to show up next week. It's not going to show up a month from now.

[00:08:05] Danielle Wiebe: It might not even show up a year from now. It could be several years before we see the fruit. Right. But that doesn't mean that we should stop planting seeds if we're not seeing immediate results. And I think that's where a lot of people, um, get discouraged is that they're not seeing the immediate results of the actions that they're taking.

[00:08:25] Danielle Wiebe: And they don't understand that it takes more cultivation. It takes more, um, building of that foundation of your business and your relationships before you can see it thrive the way that you want it to. So you know, I want to just encourage you in this when you see other women experiencing big wins in their business and you think, Oh man, why can't that be me?

[00:08:50] Danielle Wiebe: I know I used to think, I used to assume really when I saw other people doing big things, I'm like, oh man, I guess that was easy for them. I guess that opportunity just landed in their lap [00:09:00] magically, right? And then I started to notice what many of these women had in common. Is that they were bold and they seem, seemed unbothered by hearing the word no, and they focused on taking the right action steps rather than the immediate results that it brought them.

[00:09:17] Danielle Wiebe: And so I started practicing being more bold. I started practicing going for opportunities and pitching ideas without being worried about whether that person would say yes or no. And I focused on the actual action that I was taking. And so I know some of you right now are listening to this. Maybe you're washing the dishes, maybe you're doing laundry, maybe you're taking a walk or driving.

[00:09:40] Danielle Wiebe: And I want to kindly and lovingly call you out and I want to ask you. Like, what is it costing you to stay inside of your comfort zone? What is that costing you? What is it costing you? Is it costing you building a [00:10:00] profitable, thriving business that you're proud of, that makes an impact, right? So you know whether or not fear is a good thing.

[00:10:10] Danielle Wiebe: Of rejection is holding you back from growing your business. And if you feel like it is, I want you to, I want to encourage you take one action step today that is outside of your comfort zone. And I want you to tell me about it. So send me a DM on Instagram. You can send me a DM on the business babes account.

[00:10:30] Danielle Wiebe: I'm there more often now. So you can find me at business babes co send me a DM and let me know. What you're going to be doing outside of your comfort zone today. So I can't wait to hear from you. And if you want to dive deeper on this, I want to encourage you. If you had the opportunity to have the exact framework, the strategy, accountability, and the confidence to pitch opportunities, but also have the ability to.

[00:10:56] Danielle Wiebe: Not to let the fear of rejection, hold you back anymore. This [00:11:00] is the exact focus of what we are going to be diving into inside of our action takers club. So our signature collaborative community, we are going to be hosting an intentional challenge this month for our members, exclusively for our members.

[00:11:15] Danielle Wiebe: And it's going to be all around how to get outside of their comfort zone and go for those benefits. big opportunities that they've always wanted, but they've held themselves back from. The main types of collaborations that we do in our business and how we've been able to see success.
