I spilled an entire cup of coffee on my laptop…😫

I spilled an entire cup of coffee on my laptop

Unfortunately, this is a true story! ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Yesterday morning I was ready to sit down with a hot cup of coffee and get a few solid hours of work in when I accidentally spilled an entire cup of coffee directly on my laptop.

Panic started to set in as I began trying to minimize the damage, turning my computer off wiping it down and turning it upside down to make sure all the liquid could drip out.

My mind immediately went to anger, embarrassment, frustration, and the “why me” victim mentality started to soak in. I called my husband and cried. His response was incredibly sweet and he said “we'll figure this out" immediately my mind shifted and instead of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to start thinking of solutions. I had a FULL day of back-to-back calls so I asked if I could borrow my husband's computer. It's a PC, and I  have a Mac and have no idea how to work a PC but because my mind was already in solution mode, I figured it out. I logged into my zoom, downloaded the software I needed for the projects I was working on and got to work.

After the workday, I realized that this would be a great story to share with this community because I think it's relatable.

Maybe you didn't spill an entire cup of coffee on your laptop yesterday but maybe something happened that made you mad, frustrated or embarrassed.

You are not alone.

Am I embarrassed about spilling coffee on my laptop?

Yep.

In the back of my mind am I worried you are going to think I'm irresponsible and clumsy?

Yep.

Do I wish that I could just rewind time?

You bet.

I used to let perfectionism of what others thought of me hold me back. I used to try to look, sound and act perfect because I wanted to be ‘liked’ but here's the reality:

Life isn't perfect, none of us are perfect. Sometimes we make mistakes, and sometimes we fail. Sometimes we embarrass ourselves. But that's what makes us human.

So I hope that this post brought you value in some way today. Hopefully, it made you laugh, made you feel a little less alone or encouraged you to focus on the solution, not the problem next time something hard happens in your biz or life.

I hope you know that the people you admire who you might think have it all together. THEY DON'T. I promise you they also have their own “Spill coffee all over their laptop moments.”

…and hey… send me a DM @danilivinglife and me know an embarrassing or challenging moment you've faced recently! It will make me feel less alone :)
